Trading partner from South America

Successful in French-Guiana

As a medium-sized company Weber MT is doing business worldwide. A current example is SGM, an important trading partner headquartered in Matoury, French Guiana. In addition to soil compactors and tampers the company also sells trench rollers successfully on the South-American continent.

SGM has been an important trading partner of Weber MT for several years. Thanks to the excellent service and the very good contacts to construction companies SGM is highly successful in selling the machines from Germany.

Whether it is tampers, trench rollers or soil compactors, Weber MT machines see action on construction sites even in French Guiana.

A remarkable country French-Guiana is a fully integrated part of France. This means it belongs to the EU and the euro is the currency of payment. With about 84,000 square kilometers French-Guiana is almost as big as Austria. 90 per cent of the country is covered by tropical rainforest. This is why forestry is still the most important economic sector. Farming is only done in regions near the coast where the great majority of the inhabitants live. Other economic activities include crab-fishing and gold mining. The most significant factor of the economy is the Centre Spatial Guyanais, the space station where the ESA launches its Ariane rockets. As the center is close to the equator the rockets need less fuel than from a space center in Europe.

By the way: The country was originally well-known for Devil’s Island, the infamous penal colony France had established there. Up to 70,000 people from different social classes were imprisoned in this colony.
